Senior Pastor - Paul A. Thomason

THOMASON-PAUL-25I was born and raised 25 miles south of Alexandria, Louisiana, which is located in the center of the state. My mother and father took me to a Southern Baptist Church near our home. It was there, as a nine-year-old, that I came to know Jesus Christ as my Savior. After graduating from Oak Hill High School in 1976, I attended Louisiana College, a Southern Baptist college located in Pineville, Louisiana. I believed then and still believe today that the Lord graciously was calling me to be a pastor. While in college I worked as a youth pastor. In 1981 I graduated with a B.A. in Biblical studies. After graduation from college, I enrolled in New Orleans Baptist Seminary. While there, I continued to serve as a youth pastor. It was also at this time that I was introduced to a teacher named Connie from Akron, Ohio. We were married in 1982. I transferred from New Orleans Seminary to Grace Seminary in Winona Lake, Indiana and completed a Master of Divinity in 1985. In 1997 I received a Doctor of Ministry Degree from Grace. For ten years I pastored a wonderful church located in Hancock County, Illinois named the Sutter-Salem Bible Church. In 1995 the Lord gave me the privilege of being called to come and begin serving as the Senior Pastor of the Gibson City Bible Church. The people have been very gracious to my family and me. We are, by God's grace, growing in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Worship Leader - Joseph Bein

BEIN-JOSEPH-169While I call Gibson City home, I spent the first part of my childhood in the even smaller town of Bement, IL.  It was while living there that I attended First Christian Church of Monticello, where in 1999 the Lord demonstrated His grace and glory by calling me to belong to Jesus Christ.  I can still recall the hymn that was playing as I walked down the aisle to publicly share my new identity in Christ, and from then on music has been a central part of my response to who God is.  It wasn't long after I started attending the Gibson City Bible Church in 6th grade that I found myself playing keyboard during our times of worship in Wednesday night youth group, and not long after that, I was helping lead others before the throne of God by playing piano and saxophone on the Sunday morning praise team.  During high school I had the honor of serving as summer intern to the worship leaders at the time.  How could I ever imagine that, years later, it would be their son serving as my own intern?  It was during my senior year of college that those worship leaders stepped down.  I had no idea that my first Sunday home for Christmas break was the last Sunday for the interim leader who had been filling the void.  Looking back, I can clearly see God's hand at work as I offered to help out while I was home - a few weeks of service that grew into six months as interim worship leader before my addition to church staff in July 2012, one month after I joined my life to that of my dear wife and tireless helper, Megan.  In the years since, I've been blessed to work with a team of musicians and technicians whose skill and artistry is eclipsed only by their love for God and His people.  Their heart of worship is mirrored by so many in our diverse congregation whose varying church backgrounds and musical preferences are brought together by a unified desire to bless the heart of God and bring Him glory.  God continues to amaze me as He reveals more and more of his worthiness, and further clarifies His call on my life.  Until that call should lead us elsewhere, Megan and I are honored and humbled to call this place home.

Administrative Assistant - Bonnie Arends

ARENDS-RANDY-157It is an honor to serve at the Gibson City Bible Church in the role of Administrative Assistant. My husband, Randy & I have been members of GCBC for over 20 years. During that time we have experienced first hand the blessings of belonging to a local church family: being nurtured in our faith, mentored, and serving in various ways alongside others all to the Glory of God. I was born and raised in Michigan and blessed to have wonderful Christian parents who sought to teach each of their six children to love and serve the Lord, especially within the context of the local church.  I attended Hesston College, located in Hesston, Kansas, where I met a dashing farmer from East Central Illinois... Randy! We were married and settled on the family farm near Melvin. We are the parents of two sons, Steve, who farms with his dad and Greg, who went home to be with the Lord in 2003. Please feel free to call, visit or e-mail me if I can serve or assist you in any way.

Children's Ministry Coordinator - Jessica Birky

This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.I am a follower of Jesus, farmer’s wife and mom of 2 boys. I was born and raised in Champaign-Urbana, received my B.S in Education from Eastern Illinois University in 2007, and married Matt in 2010. I taught Kindergarten for 4 years until our first son, Maddux, was born in 2012. Some of my favorite things to do are exercise, read and chase my boys around the farm.
It wasn’t until I was 22 that I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior.  Because of that, I have a passion for children’s ministry. Joining the GCBC staff in 2017 has been such a blessing.  I have the pleasure of overseeing various children’s programs while still teaching and ministering to our children.  I  also enjoy the opportunity to connect with parents and families as we navigate our parenting journey together.
If you have any questions about our children’s programs please do not  hesitate to email me or find me on Facebook.
